Air Flow

Air Flow is the dental procedure that complements professional tartar removal and brushing.

After tartar removal, the teeth remain slightly rough, and the air flow procedure cleans and polishes the dental surfaces very well with a jet of water, air, and fine particles of baking soda, sprayed under pressure.

The airflow, combined with the water jet and baking soda particles, is very effective in cleaning the teeth and will clean even hard-to-reach places (corners and crevices). Additionally, air flow has proven to be effective in combating tough stains and bacterial plaque.

Benefits of Air Flow

Air Flow has numerous benefits compared to regular teeth cleaning.

  • Firstly, it is much more efficient in the dental cleaning process. The combination of air, water jet, and baking soda particles can not only polish the tooth surfaces and remove plaque buildup but can also reach up to 5 mm into periodontal pockets for deeper cleaning.
  • The use of Air Flow is also much quicker than conventional methods of stain and bacterial plaque removal. Air Flow is a hygiene treatment that effectively removes stains from the front and back of teeth caused by coffee, tea, red wine, and tobacco.
  • Air Flow efficiently removes plaque around brackets and orthodontic bands, improper cleaning of which can lead to a higher risk of cavities during fixed orthodontic treatment. Thus, Air Flow will remove plaque and stains from bracketed teeth, and the process is safe and does not damage the braces or teeth.
  • While Air Flow is not a teeth whitening procedure, it significantly improves the appearance of teeth, providing them with shine, brightness, and freshness. With a single Air Flow session, all bacterial plaque and stains caused by faulty eating habits can be eliminated.
  • The powder used with Air Flow is so gentle that it is safe to use with dental implants, without the risk of scratches. It is an excellent way to keep implants and the supporting gums clean and healthy.
  • Air Flow reduces tooth sensitivity – small cracks and irregularities in the enamel that expose dentin can make patients sensitive to contact with very cold or very hot foods.
  • Air Flow can positively influence dental remineralization.
  • Last but not least, the Air Flow procedure is very quick and comfortable for the patient, being absolutely painless or invasive.

When is the Air Flow procedure recommended?

The Air Flow procedure is recommended both in preventive treatments and in periodontal treatments, and it can be used in the following situations:

  • before applying fixed braces
  • for cleaning occlusal surfaces before sealing the teeth
  • before the teeth whitening process
  • to remove pigments and discolorations from teeth
  • to eliminate unpleasant mouth odor.
